SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- If you are looking for the best British cuisine in America, look no further than the Ozarks. Farmer's Gastropub was named "Best of British" 2012 by The Telegraph.
The awards are designed to find and reward the best of the U.K., wherever it is. In the 2012 competition, Farmers Gastropub was named best restaurant.
There are a total of seven categories awarded. Of the 2012 winners, only three were in the United States. Other winners hailed from Abu Dhabi, Canada, China, and Dubai in categories such as best shop and best sporting club.
"We were delighted to hear of the award," said Famers Gastropub owner Bill Griffiths. "It's truly an honor to be recognized in a worldwide competition for the great food and atmosphere we take pride in offering to the Ozarks."
Griffiths and his wife, Christina Fugitt-Griffiths, opened Farmers Gastropub in 2009.
Griffiths hails from the U.K., and the couple moved here from the U.K. in 2004 to return to Fugitt-Griffiths' roots. Farmers Gastropub is Springfield's only British-style community pub, and features local, sustainable, farm-to-table fare.
It's downtown in the historic Wilhoit Plaza, next door to the Moxie theatre, just west of Jefferson Avenue between Pershing and Elm streets.
