SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A nine-year old girl is being called a hero, for keeping calm while delivering her new baby brother. The girl's mother was eight weeks from her due date, when she went into labor.
There wasn't time to get to the hospital, so with the guidance of a 911 operator, Jaiden Lujan helped her mom give birth, right on the bathroom floor of their home. She following the operator's instructions, even tying off the baby's umbilical cord with her shoelace.
"I think my face was the first face that he saw because his eyes were open when he came out. So, he was like staring up at me!" said Jaiden.
"She was very brave. She didn't show any signs of panic, or being scared or anything," said Valierie Lujan, Jaiden's mother.
The baby boy weighed just 3 pounds, 8 ounces at birth. He's now at a hospital, resting and gaining weight.
