SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KTLA) -- A San Francisco couple accused of hunting and killing a man they believe was pimping their daughter pleaded not guilty in court Friday.
Prosecutors accuse Barry Gilton and Lupe Mercado of tracking 22-year old Compton gang member Calvin Sneed across the state before shooting him to death near Candlestick Park.
Attorneys for the couple admit they tried to rescue their 17-year old daughter from Sneed several times, but say they didn't kill him.
On June 4, Sneed was in San Francisco, driving his Toyota Camry at 2 a.m., when someone shot him with a .40-caliber handgun.
Sneed, an alleged member of the Nutty Block Crips, crashed into a parked car and died a short time later at San Francisco General Hospital.
Authorities believe the couple were also responsible for a shooting into Sneed's car in North Hollywood last month.
Gilton and Mercado are charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and one count of discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle.
Gilton was also charged with possession of a firearm as a felon.
Both are being held on $2 million bail.
They are due back in court Monday to set a date for their preliminary hearing.
