West Nile Virus appears to be prevalent is areas of Wilton and Elk Grove, where 50 mosquito samples have tested positive.
“The hot temperatures we had last week continue to amplify the virus in our mosquito and bird populations,” said David Brown, District Manager for Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District in a press release.
He said the Wilton area in South Sacramento County especially has seen an increase in West Nile Virus activity. In response, the Vector Control District fogged the area using truck-mounted sprayers and aerial spraying might be necessary.
People are being asked to always use effective mosquito repellent whenever outside, especially at dusk and dawn, and clean up any standing water.
