Garrett Blotter (March 19, 2013)

REPUBLIC, Mo. -- A crash killed one teenager and seriously injured another on Monday night.  The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a car driven by Garrett Blotter ran off Miller Road at Lynn Avenue and hit a tree about 7:30.  That's near the Republic Community Center.

Blotter, 16, died at the scene. A passenger, Desmond Roy, 16, was flown to a hospital in Springfield with serious injuries.   The highway patrol says Blotter and Roy were wearing their seatbelts.

Republic Police Chief Mark Lowe said investigators are trying to determine if speed was a factor. Lowe says it has been awhile since a serious crash happened in that area.

"It's not a problematic area but, as you can imagine, any of these farm roads or areas that have hills or are narrow -- it's dark out, someone over-driving their ability, that's why they call them accidents," Lowe said.

According to the Republic School District's website, Blotter was a football player for the Tigers.  Roy is also listed on the Tigers football roster.
