City Utilities Reports Increase In Bus Ridership

Springfield's City Utilities says bus ridership was up 14% during December 2011.  The latest statistics show 133,755 people took advantage of public transportstion last month, compared to the 117,624 riders recorded in December 2010.

City Utilities plans on purchasing ten 30-foot long buses to help replace some of the ones on the aging fleet.  $3 million in federal funding has been secured to help cover the cost.  The new buses should be on Springfield streets by 2014.
