POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- Some students at College of the Ozarks are in trouble after creating and posting a video that went viral online. The students shot the short video inside the college's fire department, dancing to a song called 'Harlem Shake.'
The students became just one of many groups taking part in an Internet video craze that started a couple weeks ago, with thousands of people putting together skits set to the song, and posting them online. Within a few days of being posted, students said in social media messages that 35,000 people had clicked on the C of O students' video on YouTube.com.
School administrators, though, had concerns about the video and how it represented their organization.
College of the Ozarks spokesperson Elizabeth Hughes sent KY3 News an email message that said, in part: "The students involved were counseled by the Dean of Students about the ways social media can be a positive or negative reflection on them and/or an organization with which they are associated."
Hughes also said the original video has since been removed and that "appropriate action has been taken" regarding students involved in the video production and posting.
