Progress Report: Popeyes plans re-entry into Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MO - Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is planning to open a new restaurant in the city.  The announcement is being made nearly five years after the company left the market, closing all three of its Springfield locations.

Building plans filed with the City of Springfield, indicate one of the proposed locations is 1710 S. Glenstone.  Records indicate that lot, owned by Jared Enterprises, is currently occupied by a Purple Burrito restaurant.

Popeyes, based in Atlanta, GA, formerly operated restuaurants at 631 S. Glenstone, 1421 W. Kearney, and 1725 W. Sunshine.

According to the company's website, "...Popeyes is a leader in the New Orleans segment of the foodservice industry and is the world’s second largest quick-service chicken concept based on the number of units.  As of April 17, 2011 Popeyes had 1,997 restaurants in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Cayman Islands, and 25 foreign countries.

Building permits for the proposed Springfield location is still pending.  Dates for construction and a grand opening have not yet been announced.
