Electric cars can save you money to operate but some may be concerned about the time it takes to charge them. Daren Luedtke invented an electric van that he hopes counters some of that concern.

Luedtke, president and chief executive officer of Luedtke Enterprises of Wright County, designed a van with an electro-magnetic engine. This vehicle has been nine years in the making and, thanks to research and testing, Luedtke's van can travel 500 miles without re-charging.

The revolutionary transmission allows less power to be used but produces the same amount of torque as gas-powered vehicles. Luedtke Enterprises has filed for eight patents on its transmission technology and has 29 other designs waiting to be developed.
