Greene County -- Gary McCormack's career in law enforcement began right around eight years ago where McCormack served as a sergeant with the Republic Police Department.
In his eight years there, the officers who worked with him say they don't so much remember him chasing the bad guy, but they remember what a good guy Gary McCormack was.
In fact, he was the first officer Jamie Burks met when he started with the force two and a half years ago, "He took me under his wing, wasn't afraid to tell me the good and the bad."
The worst of the bad, though, happened in Saturday's early morning hours, when the young deputy, friend, husband and father lost his life responding to a call.
That crash happened just hours after a conversation with another friend and coworker, "We talked about our futures. I never saw anything Gary wanted as being out of reach for him."
