BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Two people are charged in connection with a murder that may have occurred several days ago but wasn’t discovered until Saturday night. Police found the body of Christopher Cornell, 19, in the bed of his pickup, which was parked outside an apartment complex.
John Loomis is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Josiellena Schaefer is charged with abandonment of a corpse.
The Bolivar Police Department says a man contacted an off-duty officer and said he believed he witnessed a murder. During the investigation, police found the victim’s pickup in the 900 block of South Pike Street about 9 p.m. Saturday.
Police say an autopsy shows
someone beat, stabbed and strangled Cornell.
The body was wrapped in plastic and a blanket.
The Polk County coroner says Cornell may have been murdered on Thursday
night. Family members told investigators that they hadn’t seen
Cornell for several days.
A judge issued a search warrant
for a home in Bolivar, where police arrested Loomis and Schaefer.
Both were in the Polk County Jail on Monday.
Loomis’ bond is $250,000. Schaefer’s
bond is $25,000.
