GASSVILLE, Ark. -- An intense search was underway at midday to find more victims, if there are any, from the tornado outbreak in northern Arkansas. The damage is widespread from the north part of the state in towns such as Gassville, Ash Flat, Hardy and Highland, stretching down to Atkins and Clinton northwest of Little Rock. At least 13 people lost their lives in Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Among the hardest hit areas in this small town near Bull Shoals Dam is the Sunnyside mobile home park on the southwest side of Gassville. Of 60 or so mobile homes in this park, not one appears to have escaped without at least some kind of damage. Many are destroyed.

The tornadic winds whipped and slashed at the buildings, and were even strong enough to uproot some large established trees next to the mobiles homes. It toppled them where they stood.

Another problem is winds took down power lines, knocking out electricity and closing roads as power lines were lying across roadways, creating a danger.

At the mobile home park, some homes were ripped from their tie-down foundations and flipped onto their sides or turned upside down.

Further southwest of Gassville, a home just half a mile or so from the mobile home park is badly damaged. A mobile home on the property was turned on its side. A tree was blown over onto the home. A permanent home next to it also suffered wind damage.

Not much further to the southwest of that location, an entire forest is blown down. This is where the tornado that ravaged Gassville likely first set down. No visible damage is seen further to the southwest of this tornado track.

Back in the city streets of Gassville, it looks like a war zone, not a home untouched. Many of the houses in block after block after block are either missing a roof or siding or are demolished.

A gas station along a main street in the town is also badly damaged or possible destroyed.
