OZARK, Mo. -- A clerk at a convenience store is accused of selling marijuana at the store, which is across the street from Spokane High School. Leanna Chase of Galena is charged with distribution of a controlled substance near a school.
A Christian County sheriff’s deputy stopped a car near Spokane last Sunday. After getting consent to search the car, the deputy found marijuana. That led to the discovery that a clerk at the Handi-Mart in Spokane had sold the pot.
The deputy then worked with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the state Division of Alcohol and Tobacco. Officers went to the store and talked to Chase. They got permission to search her car and found more marijuana.
Officers also searched the store after getting permission from the owners. They found no illegal drugs. Christian County Sheriff’s Capt. Jeremy Whitehill said investigators have “no reason to believe that the owners of the business were connected to the activity being conducted by the employee.”
Chase posted a $25,000 bond after she was charged on Monday.
