SHELL KNOB, Mo. -- Some people who knew what they were doing broke into a bank on Wednesday night. Investigators believe the Arvest Bank on Missouri 39 was hit around midnight by four burglars but no one knew about it until people showed up for work hours later.
The thieves kicked in the back door, quickly disabled the alarm before it could ring 911, and turned the surveillance cameras backwards. They got away with countless safe deposit boxes, then broke into other safe deposit boxes.
Police say the thieves were also wearing gloves and driving a stolen truck. Officers hope to connect this crime to similar bank burglaries.
“We believe they were equipped with scanners,” said Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly. “We hope to tie them with other cases."
There have been similar burglaries in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
