* MoDOT crews have put up signs alerting drivers that roads are closed. A variety of signs is being used to communicate the danger. Even orange channelizers (or cones) are being placed. Please regard any warning signs or barricades or cones put up on a road as a WARNING that the road ahead is covered with water.

* MoDOT crews will be on duty overnight to watch for flood conditions on roads and put up warning signs and handle other highway-related emergencies. Highway maintenance work on Wednesday will involve more flood-related duties and repairs where necessary. The rain and high water have delayed work on all construction projects.

* Whether warning signs are set up or not, drivers are urged NOT to drive into water covering a road. Alternative routes may be few because so many roads are flooded, especially in low-lying areas.

* Customer service staffers will have information about road closings in the Springfield area and elsewhere for people who call (417) 895-7600. MoDOT offices in Joplin, (417) 629-3300, and Willow Springs, (417) 469-3134.
