Man kills wife by shooting hole in wall for TV cables in Deepwater

By Gene Hartley

CLINTON, Mo. -- The Henry County prosecuting attorney is trying to decide whether to charge a man who accidentally shot and killed his wife. The shooting was late Saturday afternoon at the couple’s home near Deepwater, south of Clinton.

The sheriff says Ronald Long apparently tried to shoot a hole through a wall to install wires for a satellite television system. One of two bullets hit Patsy Long, 34, in the chest and killed her.

Patsy Long was helping her husband with the installation of the wires and was outside the home. The sheriff says Ronald Long, 39, told deputies that he made several attempts to puch a hole through the exterior wall and then used a .22-caliber handgun to shoot at the wall from inside. He told deputies that his second shot hit his wife.

The husband could be charged with involuntary manslaughter.
