Springfield District shortens school year by one day

By Gene Hartley

SPRINGFIELD -- The Springfield School District’s last day for students this year is May 30. The school board decided Tuesday not to make up one of the six days missed because of bad weather this winter.

The district lost more days to bad weather than any school year in the last 15. It made up one of the six days on President’s Day, Feb. 18. It will make up four days from May 27-30.

The district was able to skip one of the missed days because it schedules a couple more days than the state requires each school year. Teachers still have to report on June 3 to finish up their work.
