Domestic disturbance kills one, injures one near Devils Elbow

DEVILS ELBOW, Mo. -- A dispute between two family members led to the the shooting death of one of them on Wednesday morning. The other person suffered knife wounds.

The fight was at a home at 14145 Howard Lane, just north of Interstate 44 and east of St. Robert, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department. Brian Powell, 42, died after he was shot. As part of the investigation, his body was sent to Springfield for an autopsy.

Someone dialed 911 about the fight around 7:45 a.m. While deputies were on the way, they learned Powell was shot.

The first deputy on the scene at 7:52 found Powell and secured the firearm. He then found the other wounded person. Ambulances took both of them to the hospital at Fort Leonard Wood but doctors wee not able to save Powell.

Sheriff J.B. King said investigators were still investigating on Wednesday afternoon and hadn't sent a probable cause statement to the prosecuting attorney for a possible charge.
