Man is charged with assaulting trooper during traffic stop

By Gene Hartley

HOUSTON, Mo. -- A man from Pomona is in jail after the Highway Patrol says he assaulted a trooper last week. Officers arrested Larry Brashears, 21, after a three-hour manhunt.

The trooper stopped Brashears south of Houston on Friday night. According to the patrol, Brashears hit the trooper and put him in a headlock as the trooper tried to handcuff him.

The two men struggled before Brashears held the trooper at gunpoint. He then took his wallet, car keys and a flashlight. A passerby alerted other officers after seeing the trooper's car door open and his hat on the ground.

Brashears was found near the scene of the assault. He faces multiple charges and is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

The trooper was treated and released from a hospital.
