SALEM, Mo. -- A man from Beaufort is charged for the 1982 murder of a woman from Dent County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Donald Nash, 65, was arrested Friday and charged for the murder of Judy Spencer, 21, his girlfriend at the time.
Investigators say they opened the cold case nearly a year ago, retesting DNA found under Spencer's fingernails. Court records show investigators believe the DNA could not have been transferred during casual contact but was from a physical struggle of some kind.
Spencer was living in Salem when her body was found strangled and shot in the neck in rural Dent County in March 1982.
Nash is being held in the Dent County jail without bond.
