GREENFIELD, Mo. -- The body of a teenager from Lockwood was pulled from a creek near Greenfield. For nearly two weeks, volunteers and emergency officials searched Turnback Creek for 16-year-old Collin Hardenberger.
The canoe in which he and his two friends were riding capsized on March 31. After 12 days of searching has body was recovered by the Missouri Water Patrol five to six miles from where the search began.
"The firefighters and volunteers put in many hours," said Dade County Sheriff Steve Stapp said, "and we just had a great outpouring from the community and I just, as a father, couldn't imagine what the family had to go through."
Sheriff Stapp wants to remind everyone to wear life jackets and travel with others when rafting or canoeing.
