Dent County coroner rules two deaths to be murder-suicide

SALEM, Mo. -- Investigators believe a man shot and killed another man before killing himself early Sunday at a home north of Jadwin in southern Dent County. Dent County Coroner Eddie Wilson says Roger Mahurin, 44, shot Randy Schafer, 48, before committing suicide after a domestic dispute.

The sheriff’s department got the call about 1:30 a.m. When deputies arrived at the home on County Road 6490, both men were alive. Schafer was in the kitchen and Mahurin was on the porch. Both died after medical crews arrived to take them to hospitals.

The coroner says Schafer had numerous gunshot wounds on his neck, shoulder and torso, and Mahurin had self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
