Man says robber shot him at car wash in random act

SPRINGFIELD -- City police are looking for a man who shot another man at a car wash on the southeast side of the city about 10:15 Thursday morning. The victim was shot in the back by a man whom he called a robber. An ambulance took the man, who was conscious and alert, to a nearby hospital.

The shooting was at the Ye Olde Buggy Bath car wash at 4304 S. Fremont Ave., near Republic Road. At the scene, the man said he was washing his car when he heard a pop and realized he'd been shot. Police said later that they they hadn't been able to interview the victim further after he went to a hospital.

Witnesses heard the shooting and thought it was a car backfiring. Then they saw the man and his wounds and called 911. He was staggering and yelling for help.

Police didn't say what the shooting victim's condition is. They sdaid all they know about the shooter is he drove off in a brown car.
