Man robs bank in Springfield

By Gene Hartley

SPRINGFIELD -- A man walked into the Regions Bank on South Campbell Avenue just north of Battlefield Road and robbed it late Thursday morning. He left on foot after getting some money.

A police department spokesman said the robber handed a clerk a note that said he had a gun and wanted money. Police say the clerk didn't see a gun. One customer and six employees were in the bank at the time.

A tracking dog failed to pick up a useable scent.

The FBI describes the robber as black, 5-foot-9 to 6-foot-0, 160 - 170 pounds with a slender build, black and curly hair, and possibly in his mid 30s to early 40s. He wore a dark baseball cap, maroon windbreaker with a Bass Pro logo on the left chest, blue jean and dark sunglasses.

Anyone with information can call Springfield police at (417) 864-1810 or the FBI at (417) 882-3303.
