RACINE, Mo. -- Among the 16 fatalities in southwest Missouri from the tornado on Saturday are four members of the Monroe family of Newton County. Daniel and Barbara Monroe and their sons, Jeff and Joe, died after the tornado hit their mobile home. Another son and his wife are seriously injured.

Friends are praying for the surviving relatives to make a full recovery.

”They were both beat up really bad. They're still picking leaves out of their hair and gravel out of her scalp,” said Jennafir Monroe, a daughter-in-law of Daniel and Barbara.

Family and friends of the Monroe family have been cleaning up what's left from both family houses that were destroyed. Jennafir Monroe says it didn't take long for them to realize that something was horribly wrong after the storm passed.
