YELLVILLE, Ark. -- The Marion County Sheriff’s Department says an inmate died in the county jail on Monday night. Lynn Cayia, 52, of Flippin apparently hanged herself in her cell with a telephone cord.

Sheriff Carl McBee asked the Arkansas State Police to investigate Cayia’s death. The state crime lab will do an autopsy.

Jailers found Cayia’s body at 10:45 p.m., about 45 minutes after they last checked on her, the sheriff said. Jailers and paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive her.

Cayia was charged with felony aggravated assault, terroristic threatening and residential burglary. Officers arrested her in December after a three-hour standoff at which she shot at a Flippin police officer.
