Plane crash survivor sues skydiving company

By Gene Hartley

SPRINGFIELD -- One of the survivors of a double-fatal plane crash on April 19 sued the skydiving company that operated the plane. Tera Smith of Overland Park, Kan., filed the lawsuit against Freefall Express Skydiving of Nixa in Greene County Circuit Court on Monday.

Besides killing two experienced skydivers who couldn't get out of the plane after it started spinning out of control, the crash critically injured the pilot, Jason Rog. Four other skydivers jumped to safety before the crash, which was in Greene County after the plane took off from the Mt. Vernon airport in Lawrence County.

The lawsuit seeks damages for medical expenses and other losses suffered by Smith and her husband, Michael. Besides the company, the lawsuit also is against Rog and Bryan Wolford, the company's owner.
