CAPE FAIR, Mo. -- An elderly woman who disappeared Sunday in Barry County turned up Monday afternoon. The Barry County Sheriff's Department says Mary Lou Slawson, 87, is dehydrated but okay.
Someone last saw Slawson on Sunday as she walked along the county road where she lives. Family members say she's still very active, often walking a few miles a day. When she didn't return on Sunday, the family called the sheriff’s department.
Sheriff Mick Epperly says Slawson has dementia and could have been confused by the many trails in the area. Searchers found her and her dog about a mile and a half from her home. They carried her up to the road on a stretcher.
