SPRINGFIELD -- The previously announced debate between Republican gubernatorial candidates Kenny Hulshof and Sarah Steelman in Springfield will be July 23. KY3 will host the debate, which is co-sponsored by KSMU radio and the Springfield News-Leader.
Hulshof's campaign says he also has agreed to a debate on July 15 in Columbia. Steelman's campaign says she is still considering that debate.
The Republican gubernatorial candidates also plan to appear together at a forum at Lake of the Ozarks on June 13.
Steelman, the state treasurer, and Hulshof, a congressman from Columbia who represents northeastern counties, are the two major Republican candidates for governor. Scott Long of Mountain View and Jen Schwartze Sievers are two other Republican candidates. The winn of the primary election in August likely will face Attorney General Jay Nixon, a Democrat, and Andrew Finkenstadt of Cottleville, a Libertarian, in the general election in November.
