WHEATLAND, Mo. -- A powerful storm knocked down trees and power lines in Hickory County. A tree toppled onto a home in Wheatland with a mother and children inside.
Diana Ortner was among the many people caught off guard by the storms. Sirens didn't wake her but Mother Nature herself came right inside.
Now, the issue becomes cleanup. Ortner was waiting on an insurance adjustor to get pictures of her house on Wednesday morning. Then she get a rental car as her car appears to be a total loss from a tree falling on it.
Some of the other storm reports received by the National Weather Service include:
-- an airplane flipped over at the Camdenton Airport on Missouri 5 in Camden County, four miles south of Camdenton;
-- a tree was blown down at Sylvania in Dade County;
-- a roof was partially blown off a barn on Highway BB west of Greenfield in Dade County;
-- part of a roof was blown off a building on the Greenfield town square;
-- a barn was destroyed south Highway CC at Missouri 32, eight miles west of Stockton in Cedar County; and
-- awnings were blown off buildings in Stockton.
Sac Osage Electric Cooperative crews were restoring power to about 200 customers who lost power during the storm. The utility, which is based in El Dorado Springs, said at one point about 2,000 customers were without power in Stockton, El Dorado Springs, Jericho Springs, and Osceola. Crews hoped to have everyone back online by the end of Wednesday.
Damaging winds downed trees in several counties in southwest
Missouri starting around midnight. A dozen counties were under a
same tornado warning but the National Weather Service said it had no confirmed reports of tornado touchdowns.
