MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. -- A 9-year-old boy from Flippin was injured Tuesday morning by a rifle shot after he and a friend were playing with the gun. The sheriff's department says Brandon Danner has non-life threatening injuries.

The accident was about 10 a.m. on Woodfield Lane in the unincorporated community of Promise Land. The sheriff's department learned about it after the boy arrived at the hospital in Mountain Home.

According to a news release, Brandon and his friend had been discharging a .22-caliber Remington semi automatic rifle. They decided to climb up on the roof of the home and continue shooting from there.

The boys tied a rope to the rifle in order that they could pull it up to the roof, the sheriff's department says. The rope was tied to the trigger guard. As one boy pulled the gun to the roof by this rope, the rifle discharged and a round struck Brandon in his right forearm and exited his body in the upper arm area.
