A home made bomb hits a Springield home early Thursday morning. The Fire Marshal believes someone threw Molotov Cocktails, a type of incindiary device, at a home in the 800 block of North Forest. Only a juvenile was home at the time. If one had actually entered the home, the situation could have been much more severe.

Fire investigators are looking for the person or persons who threw the homemade fire bombs or Molotov cocktails made with beer bottles, at the home in the 800 block of North Forest. It happened just after 3:30 Thursday morning.

"It's not unheard of around here. It's not all that common, but it does happen from time to time," says Sprinfield Fire Marshal Ben Basham.

One neighbor describes it as a pop, pop sound. The juvenile who was home alone, thought it sounded like a knock on the door, but when he looked outside, he saw a fire on the outside of the house. "He first went to get a fire extinguisher, didn't have any luck with that. Then he went and got some water and was able to put the fire out. When he returned to go back inside, he noticed there was a bottle sitting on the porch with a rag hanging out of it," says Basham.

The juvenile called his older brother, and then 911. The older brother tells KY3 news he was actually seeking medical attention for mace in his eyes at the time. "The older brother had been involved in an altercation with some other individuals just shortly prior to this earlier in the morning. We're looking into that," Basham explain.

Investigators have no suspects yet, but whatever the motive, the fire marshal says the result could have been much worse. "Had it actually struck the window and broke the glass and gone inside, it could have been a totally different scenario. We'd have had a major fire inside a house with somebody inside," Basham says.

Just the manufacture and possession of the fire bombs is a felony. The fire marshal says he's checking into several leads in this case.
