Greenfield storm shelter was locked when people needed it

By Brian Vandenberg

GREENFIELD, Mo. -- A shelter to protect people from dangerous storms was locked tight at the time people needed it the most.

The tornado sirens went off in Greenfield early Saturday. When residents went to the town's public shelter to take cover, they found themselves locked out, and potentially in more danger.

Police couldn't reach the person who has a key to the school and its shelter. The police chief says every officer will now receive a key, ensuring the shelter will be opened when weather threatens.
