Lightning hits home in Springfield

By Paula Dowler

SPRINGFIELD -- A couple say they're lucky to walk away unharmed after lightning struck the roof of their duplex on Friday morning. It happened in the 1400 block of West Sackett Street, near Republic Road at Kansas Expressway.

The lightning left a hole in the roof and scattered insulation throughout the home. The Springfield Fire Department responded to the scene.

The homeowner, Jeremy Wommack, says responders told him they haven't seen that amount of lightning damage to a house in 15 years.
