DELL, Ark. -- A jolt early Saturday morning was not from fireworks but from an earthquake along the Mississippi River. The small earthquake rocked Mississippi County around 2 a.m. Emergency management agencies had no reports of damage.
The magnitude 2.7 temblor struck about one mile southeast of the small city of Dell along Arkansas 18. The New Madrid Fault runs from southern Illinois across southeast Missouri to northeastern Arkansas, and produces hundreds of small quakes a year, most too insignificant to be felt.
