Springfield police seek carjacker

By Gene Hartley

SPRINGFIELD -- City police believe Shawn Bailey of Florissant is responsible for a carjacking early Tuesday. Bailey is charged with first-degree robbery and a judge issued a warrant for his arrrest.

The carjacking was at 2364 S. Ingram Mill Road, between Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road, just before 2 a.m. Tuesday. Police say a man was in his vehicle when Bailey and another man approached him and struck up a conversation.

"Soon after, Bailey displayed a handgun and pointed it at the victim, telling him to get out of the car," a news release says. "After collecting cell phones from the victim and his friend, both (robbers) fled in the victim’s vehicle that was later recovered in St. Louis."

Bailey is black, 17, 5-foot-6, about 115 pounds, and has two notable tattoos: a cross on his left forearm and Chinese script on the right side of his neck.

Police don't know the name of the second carjacker. He is black, 5-foot-7 to 6 feet, has a medium build, and wore braided hair on Tuesday.

Police ask witnesses to call (417) 864-1810 or make an anonymous report at 869-TIPS (Crime Stoppers). If information given leads to the conviction of a suspect, a cash award may be considered for the tipster.

Police consider Bailey to be armed and dangerous and prone to violence.
