Springfield will consider adding security at city offices

By Brian Vandenberg

SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield City Council will consider an ordinance on Monday night that would put security guards and metal detectors at City Hall and the Busch Municipal Building.

The city has already put extra police officers at council meetings, and requires visitors to check in at the Busch Building before proceeding to an office. The extra security came after a deadly shooting at a city council meeting in Kirkwood, Mo.,, and the death of a man in Marionville. That man had entered Springfield's Busch Building, yelling at city officials, days before he shot and wounded a Marionville police officer, who then shot him dead.
