Trooper says driver who caused fatal wreck may have been intoxicated

By Gene Hartley

NIANGUA, Mo. -- State troopers say the driver of a Jeep involved in a fatal accident on Monday may have been intoxicated and had a suspended driver’s license. The Missouri State Highway Patrol also says a trooper found no document showing Ethan Dinwiddie, 30, of Conway had liability insurance.

Dinwiddie’s Jeep hit the motorcycle of Michael Norman of Lebanon on Highway CC between Marshfield and Niangua about 5:10 p.m. Troopers say Dinwiddie’s southbound Jeep crossed the centerline and hit the northbound motorcycle head-on. Norman, 48, died at the scene.

Online court records show Dinwiddie pleaded guilty last year for burglary in Webster County and received a five-year prison sentence that was suspended in favor of five years of probation. Last fall, his probation officer told a judge that Dinwiddie violated probation but the judge continued the probation with the stipulation that Dinwiddie would attend an alcohol evaluation and treatment program.
