Six veterans of the Vietnam War were welcomed home and recognized for their service on Wednesday afternoon. The medal ceremony took place at Springfield-Branson National Airport, where all six men work now.

The Missouri Army National Guard presented the veterans with what they called a proper welcome home - saying that the men coming back from Vietnam never received the warm greeting that many our our current soldiers receive today.

For that reason, the vets say the recognition is better late than never. The ceremony is part of a continuing effort that to honor Missouri's Vietnam War veterans statewide. It is patterned after a similar effort recognizing veterans from World War II and the Korean War.
