ROGERSVILLE, Mo. -- Law officers and tracking dogs searched an area north of Rogersville on Wednesday night for a man suspected of 20 bank robberies in five states.  The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the search was from about 9:10 p.m. until about 3 a.m.

The search for Joseph Young of Rogersville started after a vehicle pursuit. An officer spotted a truck used by a bank robber in Charleston, W.V. on Tuesday.  The FBI says Young disappeared in a wooded area.six to seven miles north of Rogersville, near the Panther Creek bridge on Highway B in Webster County.

Charleston police believe Young robbed a bank in Charleston on Tuesday and two other banks in nearby cities this year.   The FBI also believe Young has robbed other banks.  Law officers call him the Plaid Shirt Robber because of his attire in each robbery.

From WSAZ-TV, Huntington-Charleston, W.V.:

According to a criminal complaint, when Young robbed a bank on Tuesday, he handed a teller a note stating, "Robbery, Give Me All Your Money, Look Straight Ahead, I do have a weapon and will use it."  Then, he started giving verbal commands, "This is a robbery, give me all your money, I want big bills."  He told another teller "You too, give me all your money." The complaint says Young put the money in his pockets and left the bank.

A tip helped police identify Young as the serial robber, who did not wear a mask during the robberies.  The FBI this week listed the robberies which Young is suspected of committing: eight in Kentucky, three in South Dakota, four in Minnesota, two in Ohio, and three in West Virginia.
