SPRINGFIELD -- An argument apparently led to a homicide at an apartment complex on Wednesday night. A resident of Glenwood Manor says she heard shouting and then gunfire shortly after midnight. When police arrived about 12:30 a.m., they found the body of Raymond Khalid, 20, of Kansas City.

The apartment complex is at 2540 N. Delaware Ave. That's north of Kearney Street.

Police say Khalid's body was outside in a common area of the apartment complex. Their iniitial investigation shows at least one wound on Khalid’s body that appears to be bullet wound. An autopsy will try to determine the exact cause of death.

Police interviewed many neighbors who heard the gunshot and still were working to identify suspects at late morning.

Police asked any witnesses with information to call (417) 864-1810 or make an anonymous report at (417) 869-TIPS (Crime Stoppers). If information given leads to an arrest, a cash award may be considered for the tipster.

This is the seventh homicide of the year in the city. Suspects are charged for five of the other six.

The other victims were:
--Dwight Scott, stabbed on May 18 at 626 N. Kansas Expressway; William Alspaugh is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action;
-- James Dake, pushed down a stairway, beaten and strangled on June 24 at 727 South Ave.; Darryl Vest is charged with second-degree murder after police say the men fought over a beer;
-- William Wetter, beaten on June 30 at 935 W. Commercial St., after an argument; Bobby Cope is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action;
-- Jason Isenbletter, stabbed on July 22 at 1623 E. McDaniel St.; Christopher Coleman and Matthew Jennings are charged with second-degree murder;
-- Monte Ruby, who died on Aug. 5 after being kicked on Aug. 2 by a Springfield police officer's prisoner who was being treated at Cox North Hospital; Jeffrey Bolden is charged with second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer but won't be charged for Ruby's death until the prosecutor has medical evidence that the assault directly caused Ruby's death; and
--Arthur Brashear, who was stabbed at an apartment on Aug. 15 at 3035 N. Kentwood Ave., a crime for which no one has been charged.
