KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The New York Yankees and the New York Mets are both closing out historic ballparks this month. Here in Kansas City, the Royals aren’t getting a totally new stadium but a year of construction will bring a lot of renovations to Kauffman Stadium next year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said Thursday that he likes Kansas City's chances at landing an upcoming All-Star game. Flying in for a meeting here, Selig met with a small group of owners.

One of the topics was Kansas City's chances of hosting an All-Star game for the first time since Kauffman Stadium opened in 1973. The home of the Royals is undergoing a massive $250 million renovation that will modernize the stadium by widening entryways and concourses, new concessions and an entertainment area.

The All-Star game will be played in St. Louis next year and Anaheim the following year. Selig says he wouldn't mind seeing Kansas City get the game between 2011-13.

Mike, I'm not sure what hole you've been living in but KC has a much better economy than you think. Not to mention that the Royals beat up on the Cardinals this year along with improving their winning percentage. You see they don't get caught up in overpaying for players that don't perform. They pay for performance. You don't have a clue as to what is happening in KC since we only get biased Cardinals sports reporting in this area. You also failed to mention how this was a win/win in KC.

I'm still in shock that a team like the royals can still be active in a failing economy like Kansas City. Yet somehow the folks of Jackson County are still burning thier money into a project like this. It makes since to stay in the league you have to always be improving. The royals should have moved to San Juan or Portland by now. But if people want to keep voting in a tax increase and burn thier money at a team that can't keep it together, so be it it's thier money.
