KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The New York Yankees and the New York Mets are both closing out historic ballparks this month. Here in Kansas City, the Royals aren’t getting a totally new stadium but a year of construction will bring a lot of renovations to Kauffman Stadium next year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said Thursday that he likes Kansas City's chances at landing an upcoming All-Star game. Flying in for a meeting here, Selig met with a small group of owners.

One of the topics was Kansas City's chances of hosting an All-Star game for the first time since Kauffman Stadium opened in 1973. The home of the Royals is undergoing a massive $250 million renovation that will modernize the stadium by widening entryways and concourses, new concessions and an entertainment area.

The All-Star game will be played in St. Louis next year and Anaheim the following year. Selig says he wouldn't mind seeing Kansas City get the game between 2011-13.
