Missouri State University is planning a test of its alert system Thursday afternoon.

The system notifies students, faculty and staff about safety or weather situations, and uses a variety of contact methods.

The university says the system is set to cycle through a subscriber's contact method up to 3-times.

The system was first tested last May, but university officials found a glitch. In some cases, the sender didn't know the test message had been sent until nearly 30 minutes after the fact.
