SPRINGFIELD -- Boy Scouts of Troop 7 are on a mission. They want to go camping but can't. Some thieves put a halt on their fun.

This time of year, Boy Scout popcorn sales usually go to support the troop's general operation funds. But Troop 7 is working doubly hard. Someone stole their camping equipment -- $2,500 worth.

"Basically the thieves broke the lock off of this trailer. They went in, they stole silverware, stole the Boy Scout tents and three new camp stoves," said troop leader Robert Asperger.

So here they are, trying to raise as much money as they can because, without it, they can't go camping. If you're interested in buying popcorn from Troop 7, chartered to Schweitzer United Methodist Church on East Sunshine Street, they'll be selling it for four more weeks. You can call (417) 882-6936.

Normally the scouts go camping every month. When they do replace their camping equipment, they say they're going to take extra measures to make sure it's secure.
