WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -- President Bush is urging lawmakers to pass the compromise financial system bailout bill that negotiators fashioned in marathon weekend bargaining. Bush says it is needed to "keep the crisis in our financial industry from spreading" across the economy.

Bush made the statement at the White House on Monday morning, seeking to assure Americans that approving his administration's $700 billion rescue plan is the right thing to do.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -- The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation says Citigroup is acquiring Wachovia's banking operations with federal aid.

ST. LOUIS (AP)- - Scott Linehan is out as coach of St. Louis Rams. StlToday.com reports, "Jim Haslett is the interim head coach. The changes will be announced at a noon news conference at Rams Park.

"The decision was made at about 2 a.m. Monday after a lengthy meeting involving co-owners Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez, team executives John Shaw and Jay Zygmunt, and others. "

KIMBERLING CITY, Mo. -- Eight units are destroyed after a fire at a condomium. The fire started early Monday at Schooner Bay Landing.

The fire chief says everyone living inside was able to get out. Investigators are trying to determine what started the fire.

WAYNESVILLE, Mo. -- Testimony starts Monday morning in the trial of a man from Texas County charged for the murder of his wife. Prosecutors say Neldon Neal shot her at their home in Roby last year, then spent two months hiding in the Mark Twain National Forest before he was captured. The trial is in Pulaski County, with a jury from Moniteau County, to try to ensure a fair outcome.

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) -- Hearings are scheduled for Monday on whether four girls taken from the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries compound should remain in temporary state care. A judge ruled Friday that there is probable cause to keep two of the six girls in state custody in foster homes.
