CARTHAGE, Mo. -- The Jasper County sheriff released little new information on Tuesday about the murders of a couple who lived near Carthage. Their son found the bodies of Robert and Ellen Sheldon on Sunday morning in their home.

In a news conference, Sheriff Archie Dunn declined again to say how the couple died. He says investigators have neither a motive nor a suspect.

Dunn clarified a remark he made on Monday when he said the crime involved "hatred." He said he didn't mean it was a hate crime, just an example of someone hating their victims. He would not elaborate.

The Sheldons operated a gun and archery business, the Old Cabin Shop, on their property. The shop's building was the county's first courthouse in 1841.
