SPRINGFIELD -- City police say two arrests solved two recent robberies. One man is suspected of a holdup of a payday loan store on Monday and another man is suspected of a holdup of a discount store on Wednesday.
Timothy Richardson, who received five years of probation last November after pleading guilty for a burglary in February 2007, is suspected but not charged yet for the robbery at Check into Cash, 1929 E. Independence St., about 6 p.m. Monday. That holdup has a twist to it.
A clerk told police that a man with a handgun forced her into a bathroom and took cash from the register and fled. Police say they learned later that the clerk knows Richardson and that the holdup was a plot between him and her.
On Wednesday just before 5 p.m., a man with a handgun held up the Dollar General Store at 216 S. Glenstone Ave. He also fled on foot after getting some money. Police say a tracking dog followed that robber to an apartment complex at 1855 E. Cherry St., just east of Glenstone. Police say they then were able to find Floyd Robinson and arrest him in apartment #3.
Robinson is charged with first-degree robbery and was in the Greene County jail in lieu of a $75,000 bond on Friday.
