OSCEOLA, Mo. -- A small plane crashed near the city airport on Wednesday morning. Police say the pilot from California was apparently trying to make an emergency landing at the airport. Instead, he struck a couple of power poles, and landed upside down in a nearby yard.

An air ambulance took the pilot to Springfield for medical treatment. Law enforcement agencies reported the crash to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Osceola is on Missouri 13 in St. Clair County, about 70 miles northwest of Springfield.
