SEYMOUR, Mo. -- There's a new addition here and people are making a big splash over it. For the first time, the community has its own indoor Olympic-size swimming pool.

It's been a dream for a long time. Finally, five years ago, the Seymour High School alumni association started turning that dream into reality, getting the funding and making all this possible for community members.

From school swimming groups to physical therapy sessions, this pool inside the YMCA in Seymour is already getting a lot of use.

Funding for the project wasn't easy to get. Voters first had to pass a half-percent sales tax; then community members stepped in with fundraisers and donations.

In a small town of roughly 2,000, the need to swim actually extends beyond Seymour.

“We've had families from Marshfield and Ava and Mansfield all joined within the last couple of weeks and one lady said, when she saw the pool was actually open, she decided she was going to move to Seymour because her children have challenges and she said they can exercise in the pool,” said Joyce Wyrostek of the Seymour YMCA.

Classes and open swim do cost money, even if you're a member of the Y, but Wyrostek says it's relatively cheap.
