FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Myguidon.com) -- The Directorate of Emergency Services and 342nd Military Police Battalion will be using unmarked patrol cars on the roadways of Fort Leonard Wood to enforce the cell phone policy - a regulation that is becoming increasingly harder to enforce.
"I don't think it is an issue of people being ignorant of the no cell phone policy," said Maj. Kurt Nielson, executive officer and deputy provost marshal, 342nd MP Bn. "The majority of what we are seeing is the deliberate or willful avoidance of adhering to that policy."
There is still a $50 fine, plus a $25 administration fee, for violators of the cell phone policy.
"Bottom line, don't use your cell phone - or, if you are going to, use it with a hands free device," Nielson said. "

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN-TV) -- The date was Oct. 25, 2005. Jeff Schlechte was driving from Joplin to Springfield, Mo. He rear-ended a stopped semi truck in a construction zone going 70 miles an hour.
Doctors gave Schlechte little chance to survive. But, after three long, long years of therapy at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, he is now walking.
Schlechte's mom couldn't be more proud.
"It doesn't surprise us; he's always been very determined. Never say never," she said.
Schlechte's goals include one day walking without assistance and also taking a trip down to Springfield to meet with the doctor who gave his parents the grim diagnosis early on. He and his unwaivering determination have definitely proven a lot of people wrong.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Washington Post reports McDonald's is trying to convince moms that french fries are healthy. Debra DeMuth, McDonald's Global Nutrition Director, mounted a spirited defense of fries to five mothers of young children at a McDonald's in Baltimore.
"They are probably one of the most victimized foods," DeMuth said.
The plausible reason: A medium order of fries at McDonald's, besides the delectable taste, includes 380 calories, 270 milligrams of sodium and a color preservative called sodium acid pyrophosphate. But DeMuth presses her case, pointing out that fries are rich in potassium.
"They are also a really good source of fiber," she said.
